Partnering with the legendary creator of popular Disney films to help spread the message about outdoor water use
For all its importance to the very existence of life, water tends to be a fairly dry subject. Hence, we're always searching for ways to stir it up a bit. So when we were asked by the Arizona water partners to produce a TV spot on outdoor water use, we were thrilled to find a legendary animator who was kind enough to lend his talents. Don Bluth and his partner Gary Goldman have a rich history in animation dating back to many well-known Disney movies. Over the years, they've produced a total of 12 films, including The Secret of Nimh, Thumbelina, All Dogs Go to Heaven and Anastasia. It was awe-inspiring to bring such a wealth of artistic experience to the Water-Use It Wisely cause.
The premise of the spot was to get people thinking outside the box, or rather, outside the home. When most of us think about conserving water, we think shower or sink. But actually, up to 70% or our home water use occurs out in the yard, so that's where we needed to direct people.
After concepting and scripting, we let the guys at Don Bluth Films work their illustration and animation magic, guiding them with creative direction throughout as they produced and directed the final spot. The result was a wet and wild tour through the typical places most of us think of when looking to save water, followed by a splashy exit into the home's biggest drain: the yard.
Now, thanks to our partnership with Don Bluth Films, the good people of Arizona will never gaze upon their irrigated yard again without feeling a slight touch of the bends.
