Does Juggling make you Popular?
It really doesn't.
I learned this the hard way in the second grade. I was the new kid at school and eager to make friends. The trouble was, I was very shy and social networking sites had yet to be invented. After a week of getting picked last for kickball and lunching in blatant public solitude, I convinced myself that juggling was the only possible way to become popular. So I went home that weekend, and after a long, punishing struggle with a trio of tennis balls, emerged a juggling, sleep-deprived wunderkind. (See photo.)
The next day at school, I unleashed my hot new juggling skills at recess and prepared to be mobbed by all my new friends. I won’t lie to you. It was a disaster. Almost no one noticed my troubled plea for attention and those who did seemed uncomfortable with the whole idea. It took me weeks to undo the damage to my reputation and even longer to convince my teachers not to hold me back a grade.
So trust me, juggling does not make you popular. However, it did prepare me well for a career on the creative side of advertising. After all, on any given day, I’ll find myself juggling everything from print ads to websites to word of mouth campaigns. It’s a helluva lot of work, but we like it that way at Park&Co. We’ll do whatever it takes to make our clients’ brands the most popular on the block.
So what do you say? Can we be friends?
