Will Speak Chinese for Food…

…Especially if it’s chocolate.

Something most people don’t know about me is that I speak Chinese. How does an Italian girl come to learn Chinese? As a college freshman, I needed to get some foreign language credits and on a whim I choose to register for Chinese 101. A passionate, persuasive professor inspired and encouraged me to continue on with this challenging language. Four years later and a semester abroad in Beijing, I’d earned a double major in Chinese and business.

Aside from being a handy skill for chatting up one fifth of the world’s population, learning Chinese has helped me in mastering another language: that of the internet. They say that Westerners who successfully learn an Eastern language are more able to switch quickly between left and right brain functions. As a web project manager at Park&Co, I’m constantly shifting gears between planning & assessment, creative and technical specs. And because each of those worlds has its own culture and dialect, I’m required to be multilingual on a daily basis. Which brings us back to Chinese and chocolate. Drop by my office sometime and for a few Godiva truffles, I’ll teach you to say, “Excuse me, but you’re stepping on my foot.”
